The first year of the Camano Island Builders Association is in the books- and what a year it was. Our first president, Barry Van Sickle, guided us skillfully through the process and projects.

Our first dinner, Christmas 2009, was attended by over 100 people. From there we were off and running.

Our first project was participating in the construction of the Rotary Park. This park is 10,000 square feet of high quality and sturdily built playground equipment. With Barry acting as the Lead, many CIBA members took on the role of Team Leaders to help lay out the park, plan logistics, prepare for over 800 volunteer men woman and children, and guide the volunteers through the five day construction of the park. This was a remarkable community construction project and a great way to introduce CIBA to the community.

We ended the year with our second annual Christmas dinner and installation of officers and new board members.

Our goals for next year are to continue building on an excellent first year by building up the membership, being a resource to our membership with information and education, and providing service to the community whenever we find the opportunity.

We would like to keep the membership better informed about changes being proposed by Island County as they apply to the permitting process, the Planning Department, and staffing at the Camano Island Annex.

We would like to provide seminars and classes to help all of our members navigate the many changes in the new building codes that are in effect as of January 1. The changes to the Energy Codes will require a special effort on everyone’s part to make sure we are all in compliance, providing the best information to our customers, and meeting the requirements with minimum cost and difficulty.

Hope the holidays were a happy and fun filled family time for everyone. We at CIBA are looking forward to the new year and the opportunities it might bring the organization. We thank everyone for their support in getting this chapter off and running and look forward to your continued support this year.
